Tri-Mode
A type of phone that supports 3 specific combinations of technologies and frequency band. For example, most common tri-mode phones are those one that supports analogue (AMPS) 850 MHz band as well as CDMA for both the 850 and 1900 MHz bands especially in North America. The majority of TDMA phones are also tri-mode, supporting the analogue (AMPS) 850 MHz band along with TDMA on 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies bands.
It is important not to confuse tri-mode with tri-band; tri-mode typically refers to CDMA phones whilst tri-band refers to GSM phones that can support 3 different frequency bands.
