J2ME

Acronym for: Java 2 Micro Edition.

A feature that enables an appliance to run user installable software applications that are written especially for mobile phones or other mobile devices. The J2ME technology consists of a virtual machine and a set of APIs (such as games, calculators and other tools) suitable for tailored runtime environments for these devices. Many phones allow the user to download new applications directly from the Internet, whilst others require them to be transferred to the phone via a data cable.
