IMAP

Acronym for: Internet Message Access Protocol.

An Internet protocol used to download messages from an email server to an email client, such as software running on a mobile device).

In comparison to POP, IMAP offers more intelligent organising mail by folders, and also better handling of sent mail. It also offers better handling of email accounts that are checked from multiple clients.
