EPOC
An operating system for mobile communication devices such as PDAs. EPOC was developed by Symbian, a joint-venture with Matsushita, Ericsson, Motorola, Psion and Nokia.
In addition to basic services, the EPOC operating system comes with an application suite that includes an e-mail handler, word processor, spell checker, scheduling application, spreadsheet program, a general purpose database, world clock, sketch program, voice recorder, calculator, communication programs, and a Web browser. It is written in the C++ programming language using an object-oriented programming design. The code is very compact, so that it can fit on a small ROM chip.
