A term that is used to describe any mobile phone that supports the Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EGRPS) method of transmitting data over a mobile phone network. However, although many handsets do support this option, UK networks are mainly concentrating on 3G technology rather than supporting EDGE.
