Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF)
A global standard for the sending of audible tones using the phone's keypad. Each key generates its own individual sound, which is made up of a combination of a low frequency tone (which corresponds to the row) and a high frequency tone (which corresponds to the column). These tones are used for tone dialling and accessing various services, such as voicemail.
