Discontinuous Transmission (DTX)

A subscriber unit feature that allows the mobile to power-down during conversation when the subscriber is not talking. In a typical conversation, the duty cycle of the telephone set can be cut to less than 50%, thus conserving battery power. However, when switched on, it will also impair sound quality.
