D-AMPS
Acronym for Digital-Advanced Mobile Phone Service.
The digital wireless standard widely used throughout Asia Pacific, the Americas (particularly Canada and the US), and other areas. D-AMPS operates on the 800 and 1900 MHz bands. The system uses digital TDMA, and is required to be compatible with installed AMPS base station networks. However, this standard is being steadily replaced by GSM/GPRS and CDMA2000 technologies.
