Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)
A type of digital wireless technology for telephony transmission in which signals are encoded using a pseudo-random sequence. Unlike GSM, CDMA does not allocate any specific frequency to each user, instead, it allows multiple frequencies to be used simultaneously (known as spread spectrum). It offers improvements over analogue transmission in the areas of battery power conservation, reduced call dropping, more secure transmission and increased service options.
The idea for CDMA was originally developed for military use in WWII, and is now used in Japan, parts of the Far East and parts of the USA.
