Bluetooth

A short-range wireless connection for mobile phones, headsets, computers and personal digital assistants (PDA's). This allows connections to be made between two devices without a cable by using a low power radio wave over distances of up to 100 metres, depending on the power-class of the device.

The first generation of Bluetooth permits exchange of data up to a rate of 1 Mbps per second, even in areas with electromagnetic disturbance. Unlike IrDA, connections can be achieved without being in line of sight. It receives and transmits via a short-range radio link using a globally available frequency band (2.4 GHz ISM band). Bluetooth requires that a transceiver chip be included in each device.
