First-generation mobile systems used in 1980's. No longer under active development, 1G used analogue radio signals that were modulated to higher frequencies mainly between 150 MHz and above. This resulted in poor voice links, unreliable handoffs, low capacity, and non-existent security. In some areas, 1G spectrum is now being auctioned for 2G and 3G use.
