You may have been able to trade your old mobile phone in for a new one. If not, then here are some tips on getting rid of your old phone safely:
1. Sell It
You could do this on an online site such as Amazon or eBay, or in the classified section of your local newspaper.
2. Give it to Charity
There are many charities, such as Fonebak, who refurbish old phones and send them to developing countries to improve communication. Un-repairable or older phones are sent for recycling, avoiding the dumping of hazardous waste in landfill sites.
In the UK, the average consumer replaces their mobile phone every 18 months and it is estimated that some 15 million mobile phones are replaced each year in the UK alone.
You can return your unwanted mobile phone handsets and accessories directly to over 10,000 retail outlets throughout the UK, such as Argos, Sainsbury's, The Body Shop, PC World and Virgin Megastores. Most of these locations will be able to provide you with a Freepost envelope or you can simply drop your phone and accessories into the in-store containers.
